Trickle Down Can't Get Up

Black print on white cotton t-shirts kindly donated to us by American Apparel.

‘Trickle Down Can't Get Up' is a bastardised version of a fashion terminology which describes the process of how high fashion 'trickles' down and becomes an aspirational stamp of identity, like the ‘It’ bag. At the same time subculture 'bubbles' up as the inspiration for high fashion runway collections.

In this case 'trickle down' is the ever-growing pressures of the capitalist pyramid and those at the bottom who bare the weight of mass production for minimal costs. Garment workers are almost owned by the brands that produce in sweat-shops, whether these are high end or high street, and as we saw tragically with the Rana Plaza garment factory collapse, many did not get up, but the brands remain.

50% of the sales go to a TRAID & CHILDHOPE project to protect children in Bangladesh from accidents, trafficking and abuse as well as guide them towards a route to education and a life off the streets while their parents work in garment factories through providing day centres.
